Shopping Malls in Town

Amazingly, there are very few shopping opportunities to be had in the Honolulu area.  Ladies, if you are looking to get your shop on, you only have a few to choose from right now.  Here are the top three hotspots for trendy shopping and plenty of money-spending.

Ala Moana — This constantly growing outdoor mall has recently added its fourth department store with Nordstrom, located in the front entrance off of Kapiolani Boulevard.  The past decade has seen monumental changes to Ala Moana, including one of the hippest night clubs (Pearl) and bars (Mai TaiÂ’s).  There are high end stores in the mallÂ’s atrium (including Chanel, Dior, and Prada), as well as affordable stores and a food court on the bottom floor (ocean side).

Kahala Mall — Located in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Honolulu at the foot of Diamond Head is the small but satisfying Kahala Mall.  With just one department store (MacyÂ’s) and some really decent local and nationwide stores, shoppers will delight in the little knick-knacks and apparel here.

Ward Village — This enormous shopping mall has yet to open but is already generating a bunch of buzz, as it will be in HonoluluÂ’s popular Ward area.  With the fantastic restaurants in Ward Center across the street and the 12-screen Ward Theaters as its neighbor, the Village will likely top Ala Moana as the best shopping mecca west of Waikiki.  The Village plans to open some time in 2009.
