Things to Do in Honolulu on a Rainy Day
It has been raining in Honolulu for the past three days and there appears to be little end in sight. Which got me thinking about two things: first, I feel bad for tourists who make the journey out to Hawaii only to find rain; second, I considered what kinds of activities there are two do in Hawaii that don’t involve being outdoors.
Luckily, there are a few things that one can do on a rainy day. Here are my top five choices:
1. Surfing!
I mean, you’re going to get wet anyways, so it doesn’t really matter if it’s cloudy, dark, or even stormy. In fact, I went out this morning at Ala Moana Bowls and there were only three other people out! It’s a rare day to find Bowls so empty.
2. Go for a drive around the island.
If the gas prices stay around $3.30/gallon, then making your way around Oahu by car is actually affordable and fun! I would suggest starting from town and heading around the island in a counterclockwise direction — heading along the Kalanianaole Highway, through Waimanalo, Kailua town, and over to the North Shore and Haleiwa.
3. Visit Pearl Harbor.
There are usually enormous lines on sunny days, but the entire trip to, from, and even the Arizona Memorial itself is covered! You may get a little damp on the covered boat ride, but you certainly won’t be standing in such a long line to get in.
