Private Flights to Honolulu, Anyone?

Private Flights to Honolulu, Anyone?

The problem with private jet travel is the carbon footprint associated with it.  But now, there’s Safari Air, which has partnered with Growthink.
Growthink said it will handle business development, growth strategy and marketing initiatives for Safari Air, which plans to commence service to Honolulu and a few other prime cities next summer using a Gulfstream IV aircraft. Safari plans to offset its carbon emissions by purchasing carbon offsets. In fact, it’s calling itself “the world’s first carbon-neutral luxury private airline.”
Flights will feature everything from concierge service and MacBook laptops to an unlimited selection of Netflix movies.

There’s a Pot of Chili at the End of the Rainbow

There’s a Pot of Chili at the End of the Rainbow

Do you love Hawai’i, rainbows, drive in restaurants, and good red chili? Me too.  That’s why whenever I’m in Honolulu, I set up camp at the Rainbow Drive In.  The Rainbow’s been around since 1961, when a former Army cook and restranteur joined forces to provide working folks and the Waikiki crowd with good food at good prices. (And did I mention the chili?) If you’re the no-frills type, you’ll love it, too.  Try the mixed plate!

Baby Loves Disco Takes Honolulu

Baby Loves Disco Takes Honolulu

If you don’t know Baby Loves Disco, it’s just about the most fun you can have with your baby…at a disco. Before you wonder if you should call Child Protective Services on people who take their children to nightclubs, hold the phone.
Baby Loves Disco is a nationwide movement at which the hippest clubs in town transform themselves into child-friendly hotspots for kids and adults to boogie to tunes from the ’70s and ’80s. Music in the Key of H

Music in the Key of H

A few years ago, before we had to worry about keeping regular hours and feeding a little one before the witching hour, we followed our friends to a beach in Princeville, where their friends played their ukuleles nightly, at sunset. They played a lot of mainstream faves, including Puff the Magic Dragon, which I learned to play on my own ukulele the year I turned 12. This kind of setting isn’t the only way to take in a show on the islands, though. All year-round, there are events of all sizes, flavors, and settings.

The Pride Week That Almost Wasn’t

The Pride Week That Almost Wasn’t

It’s gay pride month, and if you were in the know about LGBTQ happenings in Hawai’i, you knew that, in February, the 2008 annual pride parade in Honolulu was slated for cancellation. That was until three very ambitious folks took the reigns and, on the fly, created the Pride Festival Foundation (PFF).
Working from coffee shops and kitchen tables, it looks like the PFF will launch The Gathering June 27th and 28th, 2008, a celebration of ohana and diversity in the community.
